East College Way
Repair work on a gas supply line will cause some disruption on East College Way from the Steam Plant to Old Main. Parking stalls will be closed in a rotating pattern as construction progresses. One lane may be closed with flaggers directing traffic, and the arboretum stairs will be intermittently closed. Expect intermittent construction noise. Full road closures will take place only on Saturdays. Testing requiring natural gas interruption will occur during the annual steam shutdown, August 16 - September 3.
College Hall construction
Construction to relocate the Testing Center to College Hall from the Administrative Services Building will begin on Monday, July 6. Rooms 135, 136, 137, and 141 will be under construction July 6 – September 15. Building occupants should expect some construction noise throughout the project, with the loudest work expected to be demolition in the first two weeks.
Steam shutdown
The annual shutdown of the steam system for maintenance will occur August 16 - September 3. Most buildings on the main campus in Bellingham will be without hot water and space heating for the duration of the shutdown.
Wilson Library main entrance
Work to add an accessible ramp to the main entrance on the north side of Wilson Library will begin Wednesday, June 24, and continue through the end of August. The entrance will be closed for the duration of the project. The area will be fenced, and signage will direct users to alternate entrances. Expect typical construction noise, with the loudest work at the beginning when the old stairs are removed.
Western Welcome Center
Construction for the Western Welcome Center, located at the south end of the academic core of campus, began March 24, 2026. Completion is expected in fall of 2027. Safety fencing will go up during spring break, enclosing Flag Plaza and parking lot 19G, both of which will remain closed for the duration of construction. Please see the construction impact page.
