Division 09 - Resilient floor covering & accessories

  1. This information provides guidelines for resilient floor tile, sheet vinyl floor coverings, wall base, linoleum, accessories, and recycling. Temporary facilities and controls are covered in other parts of these standards or are available from the WWU project representative.
  2. Washington State encourages green building design and construction. The University seeks to reduce negative effects on natural resources and the environment, while providing a productive and healthy environment for building occupants.
  3. WWU project representative, Facilities Maintenance (FM) and Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) shall approve selection of materials, colors and sizes, means, and methods. The design intent is to select materials that blend with existing or adjacent campus building features. Unless otherwise approved, design intent requires means and methods that provide minimal disruption to adjacent building activities and operations.
  4. When working on or adjacent to occupied buildings, require means and methods that protect occupants from exposure to noises, dust, traffic, odors, and other hazards.
  5. EHS and project representative shall review MSDS for leveling compounds, adhesive system, and products. Meet criteria for low volatile organic compound (VOC).
  6. Guarantee manufacturer will recycle floor covering.
  7. Vinyl composition tile:
    • Recycled content
    • ⅛" thick

    • Note: Linoleum deflects and dents when compressed.
    • Preferred manufacturers: Marmoleum.

    • Recycled content
    • Solid vinyl
    • No paper backing
    • Heat or chemically welded seams.

  11. Preferred rubber tile flooring RF-1:
    • Nora-Norament Grano
    • Mondo-TERRANOVA

  17. Leveling compound: Latex type made or recommended by flooring manufacturer, low volatile organic compound (VOC).
  18. Adhesive:
    • a.    Waterproof, stabilized type made or recommended by flooring manufacturer to suit material and substrate conditions.
    • b.    Use low volatile organic compound (VOC) floor covering adhesive.
    • c.    Use manufacturer’s approved adhesive only.
  19. Filler: For application of base to masonry surfaces and other similarly irregular substrates, provide manufacturer’s recommended filler material along top edges of resilient wall base.
  20. Extra stock: Designer/Project Representative: verify with Western Renovation Services storage space requirements for extra stock.
    • Resilient floor tile: Deliver left-over contents of last opened box to Western.
