Division 32 - Chain Link Fences & Gates

  1. This information is intended to provide guidelines for chain link fences and gates. Temporary facilities and controls are covered in other parts of these standards or are available from the WWU project representative. 
  2. WWU project representative and Facilities Maintenance (FM) shall approve selection of materials, colors, and sizes. Unless otherwise approved, the design intent is to select materials that blend with adjacent campus building features.
    •  Chain link fences and gates are approved for use on a limited basis.
  3. When working on or adjacent to existing buildings, match existing materials, profiles, sizes, and color as closely as possible. Older products on campus may be different than current industry standards.
  4. Require a single-source responsibility supplier to ensure uniformity in construction and appearance.
  5. Require chain link fences and gate assemblies to include all fittings, fasteners, and connectors.
    • University Lockshop provides and keys all padlocks.
    •  Verify gate hardware with project representative.
  6. Provide manufacturer’s standard warranty for life of installation.
  7. Exterior enclosures:
    • Galvanized steel pipe
    • Mesh: Inter-crimped galvanized steel wire, woven 1½" diamond mesh.
  8. Interior enclosures:
    • Galvanized steel pipe
    • Mesh: Inter-crimped galvanized steel wire, woven 1½" diamond mesh.
    • Recommend using flanges to anchor to wood or concrete floors, walls or ceilings.
